Colleges work together to support Sustainable Development Goals

New film highlights project successes.

The United Nation's 17 Sustainable Development Goals are being embedded into colleges in West Yorkshire through a collaborative effort led by WYCC.

As part of the Department For Education's Strategic Development Fund (SDF) that was secured by the West Yorkshire Consortium of Colleges, seven FE colleges and a sixth college form have come together to learn about SDGs and embed them into the curriculum and college operations.

SDG Champions have been trained within each college funded by the SDF fund, and are working with teams within their respective organisations to to raise awareness of their importance and make changes to polices and procedures to embed them into day to day operations.

The following colleges are involved with the project: Bradford College, Calderdale College, Kirklees College, Leeds College of Building, Luminate Education Group, Notre Dame Sixth Form College, Wakefield College, and Shipley College.

Earlier in the year the champions met to share updates, discuss challenges and celebrate the progress made so far.

This event was hosted at the lead college, Shipley College, the worlds first FE college to sign up to the SDGs.

The new video has captured some of the benefits of the collaboration and the work that some of the colleges are undertaking.

You can find out more about how WYCC has utilised £2.6m of the Strategic Development Fund with colleges to invest in SDGs, capital equipment for electric vehicle and retrofit along with specialist training for teaching staff and the launch of The Green Skills Service in our Green Skills pages.
